Directions to Campus

Champaign-Urbana is easily accessible by car, plane, train, or bus. A number of interstate, U.S., and state highways serve the motorist (see a city map).

The University of Illinois’ Willard Airport (CMI) is only five miles south of Champaign, just off US 45.

Other major airports within a 160-mile radius of Champaign-Urbana include:

  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD ; 3 hour drive)
  • Chicago Midway (MDW; 2 1/2 hour drive)
  • Bloomington, IL (BMI; 45 minute drive)
  • Indianapolis (IND; 2 hour drive)

The Illinois Terminal, just west of campus, provides bus and rail transportation to Champaign-Urbana from many surrounding cities.

Local Transportation

The twin cities of Urbana and Champaign (combined population of over 115,000) are divided by Wright Street, which runs north-south through the middle of the Illinois campus. Urbana is east, Champaign west, of Wright Street.

If you are going to a building identified by a street address, you must know which city it is in. The campus map or city map shows you major streets in both cities.
